Balance is the secret of life. The spirit, mind, and body must be equally nourished, and no true Renaissance soul is complete without paying special attention to the body.
Diet, the amount of rest versus exercise, and emotions must all be kept in even keel for a harmonious existence. Physical activity needs to be further divided into cardiovascular and strength categories, as one without the other is not complete.
One of the best sports exemplifying the principal of balance is judo, as it’s based on maintaining one’s own balance will using an opponent’s force against him to off balance and take him down. Judo is much like wrestling in that there are take downs, or throws, and pins, but there are also submission techniques, such as armlocks and chokes. Originally a martial art, judo is now an Olympic sport and is practiced worldwide by over 20 million people, with some estimates as high as 40 million.
A lifelong Judoka and 2nd Degree Black Belt, I have learned from its tenets and employed them in everyday living. I address the many facets of physical well being in assorted articles, and welcome your questions.
